If you get this error message chmod:cannot access mysql turner no such file or  directory whilst trying to install mysql turner, it means you are probably using the wrong command. Follow the command below to install the mysql turner.

Step one –download the entire repository by using ‘git clone’ followed by the cloning URL above.

wget http://mysqltuner.pl/ -O mysqltuner.pl

Step two–Make it excuteable

chmod +x mysqltuner.pl

Step Three -Run the command to excute the script

perl mysqltuner.pl

For  a 2gb 4Core Ramnode KVM vps with a blank my.cnf see below the recommendation the script offered.I It is very easy to change the parameters-just edit the file  using your editor . I use vi . The command is  vi /etc/my.cnf

——– Recommendations —————————————————–
General recommendations:
Run OPTIMIZE TABLE to defragment tables for better performance
MySQL started within last 24 hours – recommendations may be inaccurate
Enable the slow query log to troubleshoot bad queries
When making adjustments, make tmp_table_size/max_heap_table_size equal
Reduce your SELECT DISTINCT queries without LIMIT clauses
Variables to adjust:
tmp_table_size (> 16M)
max_heap_table_size (> 16M)
innodb_buffer_pool_size (>= 346M)

root@server [~]#

— It says  Run OPTIMIZE TABLE to defragment tables for better performance I will just  Repair & optimize databases then restart MySQL: Use this command to do that for all sites and the restart

mysqlcheck --check --auto-repair --all-databases
mysqlcheck --optimize --all-databases
/etc/init.d/mysql restart
